Should You Use an ICP Grid Bot or Hold ICP?

Last updated: August 26, 2026

Choose between holding ICP and using a Pionex Spot Grid based on the exposure you want, not on a claim that one is always better. Holding keeps full ICP exposure. A Grid Bot deliberately rotates part of the position between ICP and the quote currency as price moves through a range.

Grid versus holding ICP

Choice Main behavior
Hold ICP Keeps direct ICP exposure until you decide to sell
ICP/USDT Spot Grid Buys ICP lower and sells portions higher inside a range
Rebalancing Bot Trades to restore selected portfolio weights

Why the bot keeps quote currency

A two-sided grid needs quote currency for buy orders below market and ICP for sell orders above market. Leaving some USDT is not wasted capital within the strategy; it funds future buy grids. If you want 100% ICP exposure at all times, that conflicts with normal two-sided grid mechanics.

Use existing ICP carefully

Pionex’s current Spot Grid guide says supported pairs can be created with both assets or with an existing base asset. The bot may rebalance the starting allocation to place both buy and sell orders. Check the live ICP/USDT preview, minimums and initial conversion before confirming.

Frequently asked questions

Is holding ICP better than using a Grid Bot?

Neither is universally better. Holding keeps full ICP exposure, while Grid gradually trades between ICP and the quote currency inside a chosen range.

Why does an ICP/USDT Grid hold USDT?

The bot needs quote currency for buy orders below market and ICP for sell orders above market. The two-sided allocation is part of how Spot Grid works.

Can you create the bot with existing ICP?

Pionex’s current Spot Grid guide says supported pairs can use both assets or an existing base asset. Review the live ICP/USDT creation options.

What happens if ICP rises strongly?

The bot sells ICP progressively as price crosses grids, so it may hold less ICP than a buy-and-hold position during a continued rally.

What happens if ICP falls?

Buy grids can increase the ICP allocation. Total Profit can become negative even when completed grid cycles show positive Grid Profit.

Would a Rebalancing Bot solve the USDT concern?

Not automatically. Rebalancing follows target portfolio weights and can still trade between assets. It is not the same as holding 100% ICP.

What should you decide before choosing?

Define market thesis, desired ICP exposure, acceptable quote balance, range, maximum loss, holding period, fees and exit conditions.
