The Reality of Visa Cards Inside Russia
Since Visa and Mastercard suspended operations in Russia in 2022, cards issued outside the country do not work on Russian payment terminals. This is not a Pionex-specific restriction. It applies to every foreign Visa or Mastercard. The problem is the acquiring infrastructure: Russian card terminals route through networks that no longer process international Visa or Mastercard transactions. A foreign Visa card presented at a Russian store terminal will be declined regardless of the card issuer or the balance on it.
Apple Pay and Google Pay also do not work inside Russia, even when linked to a foreign card.
This means Pionex Card is not a card for domestic Russian spending. It cannot replace your MIR card, your Sberbank card, or your SBP QR payments for everyday life inside Russia.
What Pionex Card Actually Does for Russian Users
The Pionex Card becomes relevant the moment you step outside Russia’s payment infrastructure. The use cases where it works cleanly:
International online purchases. Any global merchant that accepts Visa and has not blocked Russian-issued BINs can process a Pionex Card payment. This includes most major international e-commerce platforms, SaaS subscriptions, VPN services, software tools, cloud storage, and streaming platforms that still serve Russian users. You enter your card number, expiry, and CVV at checkout, same as any Visa.
Spending abroad. If you travel, work, or have relocated outside Russia, Pionex Card functions as a normal Visa card at any merchant or terminal in the supported country you are in. Malaysia, Singapore, Germany, Belarus, and many other markets are supported. For Russian users living or working in those countries, this is a straightforward daily spending card with 1% cashback and zero effective FX cost.
Paying for foreign platforms. Subscriptions and services that require a non-Russian card, including many advertising platforms, domain registrars, development tools, and international marketplaces, can be paid with Pionex Card.
USDT spending without P2P conversion. The common route for Russian users to access foreign spending is: exchange → P2P trade → rubles → MIR card. Pionex Card offers an alternative path for international spending specifically: hold USDT in your Pionex account, transfer to the card account, spend directly at international Visa merchants. No P2P step required for the spending itself.
