What Happens When a Pionex Grid Bot Leaves Its Range?

Last updated: August 25, 2026

A Pionex Spot Grid Bot does not reserve one fixed percentage of capital for every setup. It divides the investment between the base coin and quote currency according to the pair, current price, upper and lower limits, grid count and order requirements. If price leaves the range, the bot normally pauses new grid trading until price returns.

Why there is no universal capital percentage

At creation, the bot needs enough quote currency for buy orders and enough base coin for sell orders around the current price. The split changes with the selected range and where the current price sits inside it. A price near the lower limit usually requires a different starting mix than a price near the upper limit.

The creation screen calculates the required investment for the chosen range and number of grids. Review that live calculation instead of assuming that every bot holds the same percentage in USDT.

What happens above the upper limit?

Pionex’s current Spot Grid guide says that, above the upper limit, all investment has been sold. The bot stops placing normal grid trades outside the range. If price returns inside the range, the strategy starts buying again according to its grid.

The risk is opportunity cost. If price continues rising far above the range, the bot can remain mainly in the quote currency and miss part of the continued rise.

What happens below the lower limit?

Below the lower limit, Pionex says the investment has been fully acquired, meaning the bot holds a full base-asset position. It waits to place sell orders again if price returns to the range.

The money has not vanished, but its value changes with the base asset. If the asset keeps falling, unrealized loss can grow while the bot remains paused. Grid profit already earned does not automatically cancel that floating loss.

Does leaving the range close the bot?

No. Simply leaving the range normally pauses the strategy. A separate take-profit or stop-loss condition can close the bot if it is reached. Read what “Close Bot At” does on Pionex before setting an automatic exit.

What to check before creating the range

Setting Question to ask
Lower limit Can you tolerate holding the base asset if price falls below this level?
Upper limit Are you comfortable being mainly in quote currency if price rises above this level?
Grid count Is the profit per completed grid still meaningful after fees?
Total investment Can you accept the full amount being exposed to the strategy?
Stop loss What market move would invalidate the plan?

Frequently asked questions

What percentage of capital does a Pionex Grid Bot hold?

There is no fixed percentage. The split depends on the pair, range, current price, grid count and order requirements.

What happens when price goes above the upper grid limit?

The Spot Grid Bot normally holds quote currency and pauses until price returns inside the range.

What happens when price falls below the lower grid limit?

The bot normally holds a full base-asset position and waits to place sells if price returns to the range.

Is my money lost when the bot leaves its range?

No, but the value of the asset it holds can change, and unrealized loss can increase below the lower limit.

Does the bot close automatically outside the range?

No. Leaving the range normally pauses it. A separate take-profit or stop-loss condition can close it.

Will the bot resume if price returns?

Yes, the standard Spot Grid strategy resumes its grid activity when price returns inside the configured range.

Can grid profit offset an unrealized loss?

Grid profit contributes to total performance, but it does not guarantee that total profit remains positive while the held asset falls.
